Coding and Robotics at WSS!

WSS students were recently introduced to the concept of Coding and Robotics in their Library classes. The WSS Library received a Coding and Robotics kit for our Makerspace from Lynn Erickson, our school district's Instructional Technology Specialist.

Students were first introduced to the concept of Coding by giving step-by-step directions to Mrs. Morton on how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Following that exercise, they learned how robots need to be given step-by-step directions in order to perform a given function.

We applied the concept of coding by counting how many spaces our robot needed to travel and what direction the coding arrows needed to point. The students assisted in choosing the correct directional arrows and watched our robot complete the function. This was followed by an "unplugged" coding activity to solidify the lesson and concept. Our students had so much fun working with our robot "Sammie"!
