Mrs. Anna Calvanese has proudly held the role of Principal at West Stafford School since 2016. She currently serves as the school and program administrator for the Stafford Family Resource Center. She grew up in Springfield, MA with a large extended family. She currently lives in Connecticut with her husband, daughter, and her German Shepherd Penelope.
Mrs. Calvanese has over 29 years experience in education. She received her undergraduate and graduate degree from American International College in Springfield. Her undergraduate degree held a concentration in special education and psychology and her graduate degree was in educational psychology. During her undergraduate work she was recognized by the National Honor Society with the Psi Chi Award for excellence in the field of psychology.
Mrs. Calvanese began her teaching career in Springfield as a Special Education Teacher at Kennedy Middle School and then as a School Counselor. After that, she was hired and promoted to Department Chair for the Counseling Department at Springfield Academy, a K-12 Public Day School for students with special needs. Within this role she successfully supervised a counseling team, and worked with families and children with 504 and Special Education needs, and established positive community relationships with outside agencies. In 2009 Mrs. Calvanese was awarded the Pioneer Valley Excellence in Teaching Award for her excellence in teaching practice and her positive impact on children and her community. After her successful role as department chair she was asked to serve as Acting Vice Principal for Springfield Academy where she served until she accepted a position of Supervisor of Special Education for the Westfield Public Schools where she supervised various special education programs within the district. From there, she joined West Stafford School.
Mrs. Calvanese enjoys spending time with her family and taking hikes in the state forest with her dog Penelope by her side. She is an avid traveler and enjoys being at the ocean with family and friends. She loves to share her adventures with the children! You just may find her in a classroom sharing photos from her African Safari or the crystal clear waters of a tropical beach.
